Ari Ackerman
Founder & Chief Executive Officer

Like many former campers, Ari never outgrew his love of the camping industry. As a career camper, Ari spent many memorable summers at Camp Winaukee in Lake Winnapasaukee, NH and at Camp Mohawk in White Plains, NY. His twelve year career reached its apex when, as color war captain, he lead his dominant blue team to a landslide victory. Ari hopes that Bunk1.com will serve as means to give back to an industry that gave so much to him.

At Bunk1, Ari is responsible for the company's growth, strategic development and overall management. He graduated with honors from the J.L. Kellogg Graduate School of Management with concentrations in marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship. His background includes product management with the Sunny Delight brand at Procter & Gamble, and with the Marketing department of HFS (now Cendant corporation). Additionally, he worked on Capitol Hill for the Banking and Financial Services Committee.

With baby-soft hands, cheetah-like instincts and a swing that would make Donnie Baseball jealous, Ari, Bunk1's third baseman, is the cornerstone of our softball team. In what only can be considered an egregious oversight, Ari just narrowly missed getting voted onto baseball's all-century team. We can only hope that the voting committee won't make the same mistake twice.

David Gomberg
Chief Web Officer

David took a less traditional summer camp route, choosing to explore a variety of camps rather than sticking with one. He spent a total of twelve summers attending six different camps, finishing his career as a counselor at Boys Harbor in Long Island, NY.

David's responsibilities at Bunk1 include overseeing the overall production of the Bunk1.com site. He focuses on site usability, content, and functionality, relying greatly on his experience working in creative/youth markets. After graduating from Duke University, David worked at Nextoy, a toy development company specializing in the placement of new concepts into the children's product industry. While working at Nextoy, David co-authored three books geared towards the Gen Y/Gen X markets: 'Would You Rather…?' (Penguin 1997), 'Would You Rather 2: Electric Boogaloo' (Penguin 1999), and 'Do Unto Others: Over 1000 Hilarious Ways to Screw with People's Heads' (St. Martin's Press 2000).

Due to chronic bad knees, David serves as Bunk1's 1st baseman. While not the most agile player on the field, his consistency and even-keel temperament make David an asset both on the field and in the clubhouse.

Jeff Gilkerson
Chief Operating Officer

Jeff, who grew up in Illinois, Kentucky and Pennsylvania, did not attend "traditional" summer camps, but rather, spent the wondrous summers of his youth attending and working as a counselor at several elite basketball camps. It was during these summers that Jeff both honed his game and learned to appreciate the benefits and beauty of the camp experience.

Jeff graduated from the NYU Stern School of Business with a degree in finance and marketing while also playing 4 years of college basketball. For 2 summers at NYU, Jeff interned at Bunk1, where he was a stand-out, proving he could excel off-the-court, not just on it. After graduating, Jeff worked at a small management consulting company working with Fortune 500 companies on their supply chain and operations. Life sometimes comes full circle, and Jeff has returned to Bunk1, this time as our Chief Operating Officer. As such, Jeff has been charged with the demanding task of managing all aspects of Bunk1's operations.

Standing at 6'8, Jeff is an imposing figure(incidentally, he's a 3-time NYU Basketball team MVP). We're not sure how his tall, lanky frame will hold up on the baseball field; if nothing else, we're sure his presence will intimidate a fare share of pitchers and batters alike. Stay tuned for an update after his first full season on the diamond.

Jacob Zlotoff
Director of Client Development

Put simply, Jacob was born to be part of the camp world: he has the distinction of having parents who originally met as summer camp sweethearts. Jacob brings a wide variety of camping experience to Bunk1.com, having been a camper or counselor at day camps, day and residence sports camps, and long-term sleep-away camps. Highlights include Tumbleweed Day Camp, No. 1 Goalkeeper Camps, and UAHC Camp Swig. More recently, Jacob was a program director at UAHC Camp Newman and President of NFTY.

As Bunk1's Director of Client Development, Jacob is responsible for overseeing the development and maintenance of relationships with camps, camp owners/directors, and camp organizations. Additionally, Jacob is responsible for creating and implementing Bunk1's marketing programs. Jacob is a California native, originally from Santa Monica, CA. He is graduate of Haverford College, with experience in the public policy arena, including a stint at the White House.

Jacob, our pitcher, has devastated opposition all season long with a nasty mix of lobs and semi-lobs. What Jacob lacks in upper body strength, he more than makes up for with gargantuan legs, a seemingly endless pool of energy, a consistently level swing, and a well-rehearsed swagger.

Ed Metzendorf
Director of Sales

Ed attended camp for 10 meaningful summers, running the gamut from day camp and tennis camp to residential camps (Camp Wildwood in Bridgton, ME and Camp Androscoggin in Wayne, ME). Ed's love of camping led him to spending his summers directing tennis programs at Camp Pinecliffe and Gordon Kent's New England Tennis Camp. After graduating from Connecticut College, Ed spent four years as a Director of Westcoast Connection Travel Camp. At Westcoast Connection Ed created, directed and supervised Westcoast Connection's Golf and Tennis Division. Additionally, he was involved in all aspects of tour member recruiting and staff hiring.

As Director of Sales at Bunk1.com, Ed oversees all aspects of the sales program and is integral to Bunk1's marketing efforts. Additionally, Ed works closely with Jacob helping to develop and maintain relationships with Camps and Camp Owners/Directors.

While Ed came on board too late for softball season, he has shown surprising grace and prowess on the hoops court. Ed, with his quick hands, soft touch, and almost-implausible court sense, holds, until this very day, the Dwight School scoring record with 62 points in one game. Additionally, he won 7 intramural championships and likes to tell us about it.

Nicole Waranch
Senior Camp Liaison

A Maryland native, Nicole spent seven wonderful summers as a camper at Camp Saginaw and an additional four summers working there as a counselor. She is extremely excited to translate her love of camp into an exciting career at Bunk1.com. Nicole is Senior Camp Liaison at Bunk 1 and also is the Client Liason for Campalumni.com. Her responsibilities include maintaining relationships with camps, communicating client needs to the tech department and developing new programs to strengthen client interest.

Don't let her sweet demeanor fool you; Nicole is a fearsome competitor come game-time. Recalling her 2 years of middle school softball fondly, she has recently stepped it up into the big leagues and is the starting second baseman for the Bunk1 squad. Sure-handed and able to hit equally well to all fields, Nicole is Bunk1's answer to the NY Yankee's Pat Kelly.

Ali Mann
Senior Camp Liaison

Ali, born and raised in New York, started her camp career at the early age of 7. She spent 5 summers at Camp Lakota where she was color war captain and lead alma mater song writer for multiple color war squads (if you're looking for a freelance song-writer, you've found your woman). After that, she attended Camp Kweebec for 4 more wonderful summers. Like the rest of us at Bunk1, she wishes her summers at camp never ended.

Ali graduated from Queens College with a 3.98 GPA (we can brag about her, even if she can't) with a degree in Sociology. Combining her love of camp and her love of people, she found herself at Bunk1 where she, as part of our dynamic duo (with Nicole), is Senior Camp Liason. Her responsibilities include bringing new camps on board to work with Bunk1, managing new client needs, and maintaining relationships with our current client base.

An unsung hero on the Bunk1 softball squad, Ali played varsity softball in High School. She's been disappointed in her play thus far (attributing her play to the fact that she's not 17 anymore— although she still looks it). Whether it's gunning out runners at the plate with her rifle of an arm from right field or it's nailing runners at second when playing catcher, Ali is a player to reckoned with. Look for her to have a big season next year.

Leah Kahn
Database Specialist

Leah, a native South Floridian, attended a slew of camps throughout her childhood. After graduating with a degree in Advertising & Public Relations from the University of Central Florida, her passion for the camp experience guided her towards a career in camping. Leah worked for 3 summers at Camp Tioga as the Head of Girls and at Westcoast Connection Teen Travel Experiences as Assistant Director.  As a year-round employee of Westcoast Connection, Leah focused on enrollment, planning tours and directing trips throughout North America and Europe.

After 4 years at WCC, Leah joined Bunk1 as a DB specialist where her responsibilities include new customer acquisition, client support, and technical support for our Bunk1 DB Camp Management and Online Registration software.

Leah, who might prefer a Bunk1 snowboarding team or cycling team to Bunk1 softball, makes up in effort for what she may lack in skill. With reasonably good bat speed and extraordinary reaction time chasing down balls in the outfield (perhaps learned by studying her dog Gus during long games of fetch), Leah is a true asset to our squad.
